CGMA Emerging Leaders Competition
The aim of the Emerging Leaders Competition is to select students who are talented in finance and business management. We’re looking for future young business leaders.
The competition is organized by Chartered Global Management Accountant (CGMA) in cooperation with selected renowned universities of Central and Eastern Europe, including the University of Lodz.
The competition is open to teams of 4 bachelor students (no more, no less). Each team should have a leader, name and slogan. Teams should be registered by 15 May 2020, via https://tiny.pl/7mfgb
The competition is open to students from Poland and other Central and Eastern European countries.
The competition consists of the work and casemate taken from the practice developed by CGMA. Each team will receive support in preparation from a Mentor from the Faculty of Management at the University of Lodz.
The coordinator of the CIMA/CGMA program at the Faculty of Management of the University of Łódź and the competition coordinator is Dr Jan Michalak (firstname.lastname@example.org).
The CGMA Emerging Leaders Competition consists of the following rounds.
- Round 1a – a competition among students of the University of Łódź, which will probably take place on-line until the end of June 2020 or early September 2020
- Round 1b – competition among students of various universities, which will take place in the form of an on-line quiz on 18 September 2020.
- Round 2 – 6 best teams compete on-line in the first week of October 2020.
- Round 3 – 3 best teams compete directly in Warsaw (end of October/beginning of November 2020). Travel and accommodation costs are covered by CGMA.
All participants will receive certificates of participation in the competition. The winning teams, in each round receive diplomas and prizes. Members of the entire competition also receive internship opportunities in the companies co-organizing the competition.

On 30 May 2019, at the premises of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education, an event entitled ‘Constitution for Science in Poland and Reinventing Finance in a Digital World: Employability, Education and Partnership’ was held. The event was organised by the Ministry and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA) – the world’s leading and largest professional body of management accountants. The Faculty of Management was represented by Professor Grzegorz Urbanek, Professor Jakub Marszałek and Jakub Kaczorowski – CIMA Ambassador at our Faculty.
- CIMA participation at Job Fairs – Dni Kariery®
Job fairs – Dni Kariery® allows students not only to gain knowledge about currently shaping situation on the labor market but also find out what kind of occupations are most valuable nowadays or take part in workshops and trainings that help to improve our competences.
The event took place on the 5th of March, 2019 at the Faculty of Management, University of Lodz. Each student had a chance to get in direct touch with employers, ask questions and see what kind of offer seems to be the most interesting. Apart from looking for a job, Dni Kariery® is also a place for Students Association such as AIESEC – the world’s biggest organization led by young people, which operates in over 120 countries both locally and globally. AIESEC allows to develop leadership skills among students via practical experience in projects supporting international exchange.
Dni Kariery® has been organized for over 26 years and this event is happening in 9 cities in Poland. Amount of attendees and interests in job offers prove that job fairs are really important tool to give youth a possibility for creating current and future career path. Statistics from previous year are definitely positive, during Spring 2018 edition over 42 000 people decided to appear on Dni Kariery® in whole Poland, in Łódź over 2000. According to the report from previous year profile of students were various but the biggest groups came from faculties such as Management, Economics, Finance, Logistics, IT, Marketing or HR. The main power of Dni Kariery® is the fact that this event is organized fully by students and for students which means that it is done by youth who definitely understands needs of their friends.
As for CIMA Ambassador, I am aware that it is crucial to encourage students to take part in events, where they get familiar with the particular organizations’ offers. Such an event is organized at many Universities, including mine. Personally, I believe that my presence on this event helped students to understand how critical getting additional certificates and qualifications is. During the job fairs we could see how many companies acquired CIMA’s accreditation, meaning employers pay attention to posses well qualified workers, which will be a strong assets of a company.
On 23 October 2018 the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants and the Faculty of Management at the University of Lodz organized event: University Management Accounting Day (UMAD). The meeting was hold for the first time in Łódź and aimed to familiarize students with the practical aspects of management accounting, to create an opportunity to meet representatives of companies employing high-class specialists as well as to realize that by gaining international qualifications one can definitely stand out in the labor market. Students had the possibility to listen to the lecture given by professor Tomasz Wnuk-Pel about Implementation of Activity Based Costing in Polish Companies. Afterwards, the lecture Future of Finance was conducted by CIMA representatives from England – Jane O’Rourke and Doug Withington. During UMAD, students could talk and ask questions about the CIMA Program with the CIMA Ambassador Jakub Kaczorowski.

- SSC Charity Beach Volleyball Tournament
On 23 August 2018 at Monta Beach Volleyball club in Warsaw our Ambassador Jakub Kaczorowski had a pleasure to play as a member of the CIMA team in the 2nd annual SSC Charity Beach Volleybal Tournament. The main idea of the event was to help charity organizations by cash donation.
During the tournament they had possibility to compete and have conversation with the representatives of CBRE, Dentons BSC, Citi, RBS, Lionbridge, TMF and SSC Heroes. It was a great opportunity to meet new people and have fun playing volleyball.
Citi took 1st place, Lionbridge 2nd, and CBRE 3rd. The Tournament organizers supported 3 Charities from this event. The Top 3 tournament-winning teams shared cash donations of 10.500 PLN for their favorite charities.
- On Tuesday, June 5 2018, the Faculty of Management of the University of Lodz, the officially signed contract with the Chartered Institute of Management Accounting CIMA
On behalf of the Faculty of Management at the University of Lodz, the document was signed by dr hab. prof. UŁ Tomasz Czapla, Dean of the Faculty, while CIMA was represented by Jakub Bejnarowicz – Associate Director, CIMA Europe.
The parties confirmed their cooperation by combining their knowledge and resources aimed at offer students the opportunity to acquire a vocational qualification preparing students of the Faculty of Management at the University of Lodz to start a professional career in management accounting.
The CIMA program at WZ UŁ enables students of Management and Finance to obtain Certificate in Business Accounting, obtain exemptions from CIMA exams and confirm knowledge during examinations taking place outside the University in standardized Pearson Vue Exam Centers.
We are very happy that the Faculty of Management at the University of Lodz joins the group of partner universities of the CIMA Institute, and the students have the opportunity to acquire a globally recognized certificate in management accounting from CIMA at the best university in Łódź. Our cooperation is a response to the needs of today’s and tomorrow’s job market and employers who highly value the skills of employees with CIMA qualifications and competences. It is worth noting that at this stage employers declared interest in students and graduates of the CIMA Program at the Faculty of Management, University of Lodz – said Jakub Bejnarowicz, Associate Director, CIMA Europa.
In turn, doctor Jan Michalak, Coordinator of the CIMA Program at WZ UŁ, stressed that the combination of knowledge of specialists from the University of Lodz and CIMA opens many opportunities, including the prospect of better education of our students in the field of business competences and introducing them to the world of management accounting specialists. – We hope that signing the contract will be an important step not only for us, but also for young students in this field of knowledge who will be able to develop with the support of a world-renown partner already at university. Obtaining the CIMA certificate allows student to get a better job in finance area and to accelerate their career advancement.
